The Barnesville School seeks to hire and retain teachers, administrators, and staff members who uphold the school's mission of joy, support, and excellence. Fifth Grade Classroom Teacher - Language Arts, Social Studies    

The Barnesville School is currently seeking a dynamic educator to join its faculty as a Fifth Grade Classroom Teacher for the 2012-2013 school year. This is a full time 10-month position.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

The selected candidate will teach language arts and social studies to middle school students in grade five. He/she will also likely teach one section of fifth grade mathematics as well. He/she will coordinate the academic program with fellow teachers to maintain a natural sequential flow from grade to grade. The candidate is expected to use technology for maintaining individual student records, communicating information to parents, and promoting student and program achievements. We expect all faculty members to be fully engaged in the life and mission of the school, in and out of the classroom. The ability to take part in and/or lead enrichment classes, athletic teams, school committees, after school activities, summer camp courses, etc. is highly desired.

 

Education and Experience

At a minimum, the candidate must possess a bachelor’s degree in a relevant content field (i.e. English or history) and have proficient knowledge of relevant topics in English language and American history. At least three years of successful teaching experience (particularly in an independent school setting) is preferred.

Skills and Characteristics

Teaching skills and personal traits required for success in this position include the following:

  • a secure grasp of the curricular elements of middle school language arts, social studies and mathematics
  • ability to incorporate hands-on projects, cross-curricular activities, and technology into lessons
  • appreciation of the developmental and age characteristics of the students in this grade
  • eagerness to communicate with parents
  • skill in working collaboratively with fellow faculty members
  • enthusiasm for teaching children and helping them to achieve their best
  • philosophical alignment with the mission of the school
  • organizational and managerial skills
  • initiative, confidence, and joy
