Science and Environmental Education

The Barnesville School is ideally situated to provide its students with outstanding opportunities to expand their scientific and environmental knowledge. Located in the heart of Montgomery County’s Agricultural Reserve, but just minutes from the Technology Corridor, the school has a host of natural and technical resources available. In addition, Barnesville provides dedicated science instruction beginning in Lower School, and we utilize a full science laboratory classroom space, complete with a SMARTboard and weather station. Barnesville’s students are accustomed to investigating the outdoors on our 50 acres of land, and each year we celebrate Earth Day and Arbor Day. We also welcome outside groups such as LAND (Land and Nature Discoveries) to provide after school enrichment.

Through the recent efforts of our teachers, administrators, and trustees, Barnesville has established a vision for science and environmental education. Under this vision, we seek to cultivate in our students a strong understanding and appreciation of human activities and natural systems, as well as a strong scientific and technical foundation that will enable them to play meaningful roles and make wise choices for sustainability. As we look to the future, we seek to teach and model environmentally responsible practices, develop a robust science curriculum, and emphasize experiential learning through direct interaction with local resources.
