After-School Programs    

The Barnesville School offers students an opportunity to extend their interests beyond the traditional curriculum with our unique after school programs. Students are able to select from a variety of activities. You can register for the entire year or just one session at a time.

Session III: Mar. 11 - May 24, 2013
Class Offerings    
Advanced Painting (cost $200)
Advanced painting is a water-based oil painting class where students paint from life as well as their imaginations. The students also explore aspects of color theory and learn about painting styles of famous painters. The students personal sensibilities as artists will be encouraged. This class will have a flexible schedule. Please email Mrs. Waldhorn for details.

Creative KidsYoga (cost $200)
Jill Reeves, owner of Happy Now Yoga and certified Kids’ YogaFit instructor, is offering yoga classes for children Grades 1-4. Jill offers a “whole child” teaching approach to yoga by offering authentic, kid-friendly yoga poses, healthy, simple breathing techniques, purposeful learning games, and musically inspired creative movement exercises. The main focus of the class is fun! Children are encouraged to participate fully and enjoy the “game” of yoga. At the same time, they will learn how to use yoga as a stress releasing tool during their everyday activities while they learn to relax and rejuvenate their energies in a happy group setting. These experiences will help them to gain a lifetime tool for wellness.

Cupcakes (cost $15)

Bring home some Luck O' the Irish. EC through first grade students are invited to decorate six St. Patrick's Day cupcakes to bring home to their families. They will meet in the first grade classroom. Please send in a container to transport these sugary delights home.

The Fun Bus (cost $110)
The Fun Bus is coming to Barnesville! This is an exciting new program for our youngest students. EC-1st grade students are invited to attend this fun filled fitness program.  Students will spend 30 minutes on the bus. Each week there will be a different group fitness lesson followed by some fun on their obstacle course. Students will be supervised by Barnesville staff from dismissal until class begins. Space is limited to 15 participants.

L.A.N.D. (cost $50)
Let’s get outdoors and explore nature! We will discover all aspects of nature right there at school. Nature walks to look for insects, plants, snakes, and whatever else we find.We will even do little landscaping around the school. SSL opportunities are available for 8th graders. Parents are welcome to join us and help out.

MathCounts (cost $500)
Competitive Math returns to Barnesville this year with the return of our MathCounts team!  Learn new strategies and tricks to improve your problem solving skills. Competitions consist of individual and team problem solving sessions.

Sarge Athletics (cost $275)
Sarge is back for another session. Increase your physical fitness, strength and endurance. Registration entitles you to use the Sarge Athletic facilities on days off and Saturdays.

Instructor: Patrick "Sarge" Avon
 
Patrick “Sarge” Avon served in the Navy for five years and has taught athletics to both youth and adults in the Washington, D.C. area since leaving the Navy in 1986. In 1989 he opened a business called The Sergeant’s Program focused on adult outdoor exercise. Once his children began in youth sports, his focus quickly shifted to athletes and youth fitness. His playful nature enables him to draw the most out of kids of all ages. 
 
Soccer Shots (cost $105)
Soccer Shots is a nationally recognized program that offers a high energy, fun and age-appropriate introduction to the wonderful game of soccer. In addition to soccer, we work on improving children’s gross motor skills and teaching children important concepts such as teamwork, sharing and respect. We run our 30-minute class on site at your child’s center and no equipment is required for participation. Soccer Shots instructors are enthusiastic and passionate about working with kids. Our goal is simple: to leave a lasting, positive impact on every child we serve!

Young Performers (cost $400)

"All the World's a Stage" when the Young Performers meet William Shakespeare! Second, 3rd, and 4th graders are invited to join the troupe on Monday afternoons for the winter and spring sessions to celebrate the world of Shakespeare... his life, his time, and his works. We will end our spring session with an outdoor performance of A Midsummer Night's Dream.
