Ways of Giving

So much of what our school enjoys today was received as charitable gifts from the school's families, friends,  former parents, alumni, grandparents and others members of the Barnesville community. We hope that you will take a few minutes to review your charitable intent—and consider including The Barnesville School in your plans.

Examples of tax-deductible gift opportunities are:

Cash

Gift of cash are certainly the easiest and most popular. Make sure that your check is payable to The Barnesville School.

Credit Cards

The Barnesville School is currently accepting gifts by way of VISA, Mastercard and American Express. Gifts made by credit card have the special advantage of being deductible in the year the gift is made even though you may not complete payment until a later date. You will also receive any other benefits provided by the credit card company such as frequent flyer miles. To make a charitable gift to the School through one of these credit cards, please contact the Advancement Office at (301) 972-0341 x 235 or the Business Office at (301) 972-0341 x275.

Appreciated Securities

A gift of appreciated publicly traded securities can bring the donor great tax savings than gifts of cash by offering the donor two significant advantages. First, you avoid paying capital gains on the increased value of the stock gifted. Second you receive a charitable deduction for the full fair market value of the stock when the gift is made.

Gifts In Kind

Schools like Barnesville welcome contributions of computers, office furniture, classroom supplies, landscape materials, athletic equipment and many other items related to the educational program. The Advancement Office will be happy to help you determine gift acceptability.

Real Estate

A gift of real estate may be an attractive way to make a substantial commitment to The Barnesville School and realize tax benefits at the same time. Your residence, vacation home, farm, acreage, or vacant lot may have so appreciated in value through the years that its sale would mean a sizeable capital gains tax. By making a gift of this property, instead, you would avoid or significantly reduce the amount of capital gains you otherwise would have to pay. At the same time, you would receive a charitable deduction for the full fair market value of the property.

Memorial and Honorary Gifts

The end of the year may be a time when you wish to make your donation(s) in someone els' name. Gifts may be pledged in memory of an individual who has passed away or specified to honor a member of your family or the Schoo' family. Gifts will be recognized in the Annual Report of Gifts, and the family or individual(s) will be informed of your gift in their memory/honor.
