Hot Lunch Update

The hot lunch program is off to a great start this year. There have been several changes this year that seem to
be working out wonderfully. The lunch schedules have been moved closer together which is helping with the quality issues we were having last year. The salad only option has been a hit as well. The feedback we have gotten for the September lunches has been positive.

The menu for November is now open, so please get your orders in! The deadline for ordering November lunches will be October 15th.  The November menu will show an all you can eat salad bar option with or without chicken tenders instead of distinguishing between a caesar or garden salad as was how it appeared for September and October. This way the kids can make up their salad however they like. They are also able to enjoy the bread, fruit and/or dessert that is offered that day as well.

Thank you to the wonderful parents who volunteered their time in September: Lynn Brown, Nicole Ehrentraut, Katherine Dodson, Karin Hall, and Rakhi Handa.

Follow up to Second Grade's Visitor Last Week
fuzzy things 016.jpg

Some of you may have met "Barney," the 5 month old black kitten that visited the second grade last week. Barney was one of four kittens found in the bushes in front of the school. All four kittens found a home but, sadly, one of the kittens now needs a new home. Her owner turned out to be allergic to cats! She is also black and just as adorable as her brother.

If you can provide a loving home for this little kitty please contact Deb Collins at 301-526-1610. She gets along fine with dogs, is up to date on her shots, and Deb will spay her at no cost.

Instrumental Music Offered to the Students at the Barnesville School!

Our Students have been offered an opportunity to participate in the Seneca Academy Community Youth Band! The Seneca Academy Community Youth Band will offer beginning/intermediate music instruction on brass (trumpet/trombone) and woodwind (flute/clarinet/altosax) instruments. The program will give 4th thru 8th grade students the chance to learn how to play their chosen instruments and develop skills throughout the year. Performance opportunities will be provided.

Students and parents will have the ability to see and hear the band instruments that will be taught this year.

The student/parent information meetings will be held Thursday October 1st 2009 at 2:15 pm (middle school assembly) and another date to be determined (information will follow)

At these meetings there will be demonstrations of the various instruments, guidance on how to choose the correct instruments and time for the students to try the instruments as well. Parents will be provided with detailed information about instrument rentals and materials needed.

Any interested families should contact Loree Miller at ext 233 or email lmiller@barnesvilleschool.org.
