It is hard to believe that we are already into our second month of school. We are enjoying each day with your children and are amazed at their rapid adjustment to our program. Already routines are being established and new friendships are forming with their classmates as well as with our Pre-Kindergarteners.
October is always packed full of exciting learning opportunities. Our themes for this month include safety, fall, apples and pumpkins, and of course Halloween! Also this month we will begin to introduce one letter a week to focus on letter recognition. Through our activities the children will become visibly familiar with the alphabet as a whole as well as the name of each letter. For each letter, we will make a paper bag puppet designed not only to reinforce letter recognition, but to also increase motor development and eye-hand coordination in addition to promoting language development and math readiness. We will begin with A and finish with Z.
We have already begun fall activities and will continue them throughout the month. Our classroom tree will become more colorful by the week as we create a variety of fall colored leaves to place on it! As seasonal changes occur we will learn plenty of songs and finger plays plus enjoy a variety of crafts and cooking activities! Please feel free to send in any fall related items you might find outdoors. We would love to have your child share them with us!
During October we will have a school wide focus on safety. We will learn about fire safety in the classroom, and will also have a special visit from the Beallsville Fire Station Firefighters. They will bring along their truck and equipment to share with the children. It’s always a thrilling morning in our classroom when they come to visit!
We also began our Buddy Program on Sept. 28! The 8th graders will join us for a fun fall activity again in October. The students are very excited to get together with their buddies again!
Our busy month will culminate with fun, not scary, Halloween activities and a party! There will be more information about that coming home later in the month.
Happy fall!
