Each September I look at the calendar and think “wow, what a busy month!”. And then I turn the page to October and realize it’s just as exciting as September, if not more so! Allow me to draw your attention to six events happening this month.
Lymphoma Research Ride – Sunday, October 11th, starting at 8 am.
Once again Barnesville hosts this charitable event to support The Lymphoma Foundation. This is a non-competitive bike ride in which survivors, individuals, community teams, and corporate teams choose to ride either a 25 or 50 mile route. Participating this year on behalf of The Barnesville School are parents Pete Collins, Eric Warehall, Mark Waksberg, and alumnus Alex Collins ’08. The Barnesville community has certainly been affected by this disease, so your participation and support are greatly appreciated.
Student Nature Walks – Wednesday, October 14th (all day).
Local author and former Barnesville Parent Melanie Choukas-Bradley will be leading nature walks on Barnesville’s campus all throughout the day. Students will be identifying trees and learning about the landscape as they trek around the school’s 50 acres. This will be held outdoor rain or shine, so be sure that your child is dressed appropriately for the weather! And then on the following evening….
Klingenstein Lecture Series – Thursday, October 15th at 7 pm.
Melanie returns Thursday evening to discuss the natural history and geology of the Sugarloaf region as well as the flora of Washington. There will be a slide presentation and book signing. This event is free and open to the public. You may sign up to attend the event here.
Parent / Teacher Conferences – Thursday, October 22nd and Friday, October 23rd.
All families are heartily encouraged to meet with their children’s teachers during these two afternoons. Please contact Karol to set up a time to meet.
Barnesville Basement – Saturday, October 24th and Sunday, October 25th.
It’s that time of year again! The Barnesville Basement returns, bigger than ever. Not only does the Basement provide funds for the School, it also serves as a community service activity, both for our student volunteers and for the local organizations that receive donations at the close of the event. If you have donations to offer, you may contact Janine Huber.
Walk-a-Thon – Friday, October 30th at 9:30 am
Barnesville will be hosting the Fannie Mae Help the Homeless Mini-Walk to benefit The Dwelling Place and the Frederick Rescue Mission. If you haven’t turned in your form or donation, please do so right away, so that your child may participate in this great event!
And then, before you know it, it will be Halloween. See how quickly October passes? I hope to see you at some of these wonderful school events and activities. Spread the word – Barnesville is a busy place in October!
