Music

The First Grade students have started to listen to the sounds of music from the Renaissance Music Style Period (1430--1600)!  We have started with recorder music, and will soon be hearing how a lute sounds!  The students are working on their songs for the Lower School Holiday Show coming up on December 19th;  the theme for this year's program is "Winter Scenes".  Look for details regarding this important school event in Bits.

PE

The first grade has been working hard at different Net Games. They have been working on different throwing combinations, and combining their throwing skills with new Net Games. They have been learning about Volleyball. They are working hard to learn how to hit the volleyball all while keeping the aspects of teamwork and cooperation in mind. They are improving!!!

Art for March

The first graders enjoyed making their Mexican animal masks and are now beginning their fiesta pole puppets.

Spanish

Children in first grade are really involved in learning the new topics in Spanish class. Our next unit is called Clothing and brings a lot of new vocabulary words related to winter clothes in addition to seasonal clothes. This unit offers us the chance to connect previous knowledge about the body parts with the clothing that we wear. Furthermore, we can also describe clothing by using the colors and sizes. Moreover, we will talk about Winter Holidays and how people celebrate these festivities in different ways. In addition, we will talk about Las Posadas in Mexico.
