December 2010 Newsletter

Dear Families,

We had a fantastic time celebrating Grandparents Day at Barnesville. Each child, with the help of their grandparent or special friend, picked out a book for the library, got their picture taken, and had some fun in the classroom and on the playground!

As we close 2010, we have a busy month ahead of us! This month we will be working on the letters C, O, and Q. Our themes include the Five Senses and learning more about holidays celebrated around the world. Do you have a special activity that you do for the holidays? Do you celebrate Hanukkah or Kwanza or another holiday and want to show us what you do at home? If so, email me with your idea and we can set up a time for you to come in. It is always a wonderful time of year to celebrate our differences!

As a reminder, if you have not sent in cold weather change of clothes to leave here in case of spills and accidents, please do so as soon as possible. Also, please label all hats, scarves, gloves, and mittens. Along with warm coats, these are necessary, and many friends may have the same colors and designs.

Finally, I hope that you will all be able to attend our class holiday party on the last day of school before winter break – Friday, December 17th. There will be more details as we get closer to the date. We also have our holiday show on Thursday December 16th at 7pm. There will also be many fun activities at school for the kids so keep an eye out for my emails with more details and dates as soon as I get them!

Happy Holidays and Happy New Year!

Love,

Chris and Debbie

Spanish

During the month of December, students will start to learn a variety of new topics, many of which, will be related to the Holiday Season. We will begin by reviewing the numbers from 1 through 10 and then expand this knowledge to encompass the numbers from 1 through 20. Furthermore, we will increase our knowledge of sizes by learning the size of medium. Our Holiday related topics will include an introduction to different winter celebrations with a special emphasis on traditional foods.

Music

The students in Pre-Kindergarten are working on their songs for the Lower School Holiday Show coming up on December 19th;  the theme for this year's program is "Winter Scenes".  Look for details regarding this important school event in Bits.  Also, they continue to enjoy nursery rhymes, lullabies, and singing games with dancing and movement.

PE

The Pre K has been hard at work, learning new ways to move around the gym. They have been introduced to tag and fleeing games like Train. They are continuing to work on their throwing and catching skills, with different Net Games. They can look forward to a variety of holiday games in the next month!
