Parent Education Opportunities
On the calendar for March!
Timely Topics: Raising Responsible Children
Join us on March 10th in the morning following car pool line, in the Resource Room, for a presentation and discussion by Pascale Brady from PEP (Parent Encouragement Program) on a topic of interest to all parents! You can’t make a child be responsible, but you can provide plenty of opportunities for the child to learn how to be responsible. Discover new ways to encourage responsible behavior in your children, and to lay the groundwork for successful adulthood. Contact Janine Huber, janinebhuber@hotmail.com with any questions.

Raising Good Children, by Thomas Lickona
“A child is the only known substance
from which a responsible adult
can be made.”
Join us on March 18th in the evening, from 7:30 PM to 9:30 PM, in the Resource Room. Our book this month is Raising Good Children, by Dr. Thomas Lickona. We’ll discuss Lickona’s ideas on how to help your child develop a lifelong sense of honesty, decency, and respect for others. Parents are up against a lot more than they used to be. “Children face a social environment that is actively hostile to many of the values parents would like to teach their children. A study by Cornell University found that American Children were more likely to break a rule or law if they thought their peers would know about it. Researchers confirm what parents fear: kids at every grade level are more dependent on peers than they used to be.” Join us for what will be a rich discussion – even if you haven’t finished the book! Email Kristen Waksberg with any questions.
Read-A-Thon for Haiti: Help is on the way!
Proceeds from our Read-A-Thon for Haiti are rolling in -- so far we've raised over $690! Way to GO, Barnesville students!
PLEASE NOTE: We have extended the deadline -- the new deadline for donations is March 2nd. Please forward your completed Pledge Sheets and donation money to Marie Mehaha in the Barnesville Business Office no later than March 2nd.
The money we raise will benefit the victims of the earthquake by supporting the American Red Cross Haiti relief operation. The American Red Cross is working with its partners in the global Red Cross and Red Crescent network, including the Haitian Red Cross, and other partners to assist those affected by the disaster. We hope the students also profited from this experience by gaininga greater understanding of the idea and importance of social responsibility in the broader community -- on a global scale. Thanks to all who participated in this important community service project!
