April in Pre-K

Dear Families!

Welcome back from Spring Break! This month we will be as busy as a Barnesville Bee as we continue to learn and grow! We hope to enjoy as many outdoor activities as the weather allows including a spring walk, a campus nature “hike” and bubble-blowing. Our outside bikes and sandbox are always fun for recess.

We will also continue our Star of the Week program, learning more about Trent, Sangita and Cecelia! Can’t wait to see what they do in our class!

We are almost done going through the letters of the alphabet! This month we will cover N, W, X, and Y. We will leave Z for May! In Math, we will continue to graph, pattern, and work on addition and subtraction. We will have an introduction to telling time to the hour which will be a lot of fun to learn what the clock on the wall is all about.

In Science, we will study birds. We will look at different types of birds and how they make their nests. We will also learn about the life cycle of a butterfly by observing the real thing in the classroom! Finally, we will talk about Earth Day, why it is so important to protect the earth, and how we can do it each day.

As the weather gets warmer, please continue to send in a light jacket. There is strong wind that picks up on our playground that can make it a bit chilly.

Looking forward to the warmer weather!

Warmly,

Chris and Debbie

Music

In Music Class, the Pre-Kindergarten continues to work on their solfege, which is the classical and widely-used method of teaching basic singing skills.  They enjoy using the "picture symbol charts" (in which little images stand for music notes) to help them with learning solfege.  They have been playing music with rhythm sticks--used in creative ways!  They enjoy singing about all the animals and insects in the song, "Frog Went A-Courtin'."  And for St. Patrick's Day, they are learning some fun Irish songs, jigs, rhymes, and the "Santy Maloney" dance!

Physical Education

The Pre-K has been stretching, rolling, crawling, flipping, and balancing all over the gym. They have been learning and practicing different gymnastics skills. The balance beam, vault, mini trampoline, and the wedge mats are just some of the equipment the Pre-K has been using.

Spanish

We have been working hard getting to know your child and his or her strengths as well as areas of need. All second trimester topics continue to be reinforced during our third trimester. In addition, we will cover farm animals during April. Please, your encouragement to make connections with Spanish language and culture is very valuable and helpful. Thank you.
