Winding Down to the Last Day in 4th Grade

Now comes the hardest part of the year, trying to close out lessons and keep the class going to the last day of school.   Our class has the West to finish in Regions, and we’ll have various math lessons to cover, so that we touch on the major skills for 4th grade. In addition, we will be preparing our class for the big “State Fair Day” coming up on May 13.  The easiest way to go over the schedule is to look at the calendar below.  Please check and mark the dates for the different events coming up in and outside the classroom.   There will not be a book report this month, while we concentrate on finishing our curriculum for reading and other skills in language arts.  Wishing you all a  wonderful  summer !  Thanks for giving us a year to work with such wonderful students!

Spanish
The month of May we will keep learning about animal description and get ready for our “Noche Latina”. In June, students will learn action verbs.
Physical Education
As the school year winds down, the fourth grade is continuing to push toward the top! They will be finishing their Presidential Fitness Testing this month in the hopes that they can achieve the Presidents Award!  They will also be learning about lacrosse.  They will be introduced to the basic mechanics and movement patterns of the game.  As the weather breaks, please make sure that your child is wearing appropriate shoes on PE days!
Art
We have completed all of our Colonial art and states projects. Many of which you will seeing during State Fair Day and Arts and Academics night. I chose the 4th grade to make Panamanian Mola designs for my Arts and Academics bulletin board.Be on the look out for brightly designed animals that evening. In May we are going to concentrate on drawing, working on object drawing inside and landscape drawing outside. This is a nice change of pace from the year's long term curriculum I have enjoyed working with your talented children and look forward to working with them in the fifth grade!
Music
In Music Class, the Fourth Grade students have been listening to the sounds of sixtets and septets.  The sixtet presented to them the unusual, "ear-stretching" sounds of avant-garde composer Karlheinz Stockhausen's "Kreuzspiel" (meaning "Crossplay", a method of composing atonal music).  They plan to welcome Spring with May Day festivities, including celebratory singing and dancing, on May 6 beginning at 10:30 a.m.  You are all invited!
