Support the Hope in Richmond Community Service Project!

Starting next week, donation boxes will be available to collect needed items for Grass Roots Youth Soccer and other community projects for a small community of 9,000 in Richmond, South Africa, which is faced with 70% unemployment and a 35% HIV infection rate. Supplies that are urgently needed include: soccer equipment for youth of all ages (used and new cleats, shin guards, goalie gloves, jerseys and shorts, and new soccer balls - deflated); art supplies (glue sticks, construction paper, colorful tissue paper, paper for finger painting, child-safe scissors, markers, crayons); and supplies for a children's library (Play Doh, children's puzzles). The donated items will be hand-carried to Richmond in July by members of local community groups working to meet critical needs in Richmond focused on several key areas: nutrition, health, sanitation, employment and education. Other organizations involved include St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Poolesville, Rotary International, The Episcopal Diocese in Rockville, Monocacy Lion's Club of Poolesville, and the Anglican Church in Quebec, Canada.  Please help support our effort by donating anything you can.

Non-Payment of Fees:

As the school year draws to a close, this is just a reminder that all account balances need to be up to date, otherwise the School reserves the right to withhold official school records. Please refer to page 16 of the the Student Handbook for details.

Attention Payment Plan Families:

Thank you for the patience that you have shown as we transition over to the new FACTS online reenrollment.

This is a friendly reminder that you need to enroll online as soon as possible. Click this link:FACTS Online Enrollment  to start the process.

The FACTS enrollment is $38. This fee is in addition to the school service fee as indicated on your enrollment contract.

Facilities and Transportation

Security System

A software change was made in our door security system several months ago. One obvious visual change is the little  red/green light on the panel showing the door locking system being either opened or closed. Under the old system, if the door was unlocked, the small light would be a constant green. With the software change, an unlocked door now shows that light blinking green/red, green/red.

Lost and Found

There are mounds of clothing in our lost and found. If not claimed by the end of our school year, they will be donated.  Please stop by and claim your child’s lost items.

Hot Dog Lunch
Beach day is Tuesday, June 8th, with a hot dog lunch. Please remember to get your form and money to me by June 2nd.

Tooth box report- just for fun!
My new tooth boxes have arrived and 2 were filled the next day with teeth that I gladly pulled out of willing students’ mouths. The second grader begged me to pull her tooth. The fifth grader was tired of it.  The teeth were ready to come out for the tooth box. Since the last BITS, 6 tooth boxes have left my office.

Stop by and see my new “Who lost a tooth?” chart.

Health/Emergency and Student Information Forms.
Don’t forget to get your completed forms to me as soon as possible. Why not get it done now-you won't have to think about them after the dismissal bell rings on the 11th of June!

  • 8th grade trip to New York City
  • 3rd grade Explorers’ Museum
  • Lower School Field Day
  • Middle School Olympics

  • Graduation Dinner
  • Graduation

Please keep an eye on our website and this week's BITS to get the latest information.

One of our most important events each year is Arts & Academics Night, scheduled this Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m. I urge you all to come this evening, for in addition to the buddy presentations and classroom displays, there will be an important announcement concerning our school’s future. Arts & Academics Night seems like the best opportunity to talk about exciting things to come for Barnesville and its students.

And now – off to Sheridan Mountain Campus with our 6th graders!

Lower School

News from Pre-Kindergarten
Pre-K is working on a zoo research project. We are researching the habitat
of our favorite zoo animals and creating the habitat with colorful
construction paper and other materials in shoe boxes. Mrs. Barr helped us
find a research book about each of our animals to help with what the animal
looks like and find photographs of where it lives when it is not in the zoo.
They will be on display for Arts and Academics Night.

First Grade News
On June 1, First Grade will be going on a field trip to Clara Barton's house
to learn about the Red Cross and disaster relief. On the same day, we will
also attend an "Eggs to Legs" program at the Living Classroom of the National
Capital Region to learn about animal life cycles.

News from Second Grade
Second Grade is preparing for our Author's Tea which will take place next
Tuesday, June 1st. This week we are creating writing portfolios with all of
the writing pieces we completed this year. This includes descriptive
paragraphs, animal research reports, personal narratives, how-to’s, and silly
stories. On Tuesday each second grader will read their favorite piece to
assembled parents and staff in celebration of a great year of writing.
