Volunteers Wanted!
Staff Appreciation Week is May 2nd through the 6th and the BPC is planning some special events to celebrate our wonderful faculty and staff. On Tuesday, May 3rd, we would like to give the staff a small "break" and are asking for volunteers to assist in the classroom from 12:45 to 1 pm for lower school and from 1:05 to 1:20 for the upper school.  Then on Wednesday, May 4th, the staff will be eating together in the Hyatt from 11:30 to 12:30.  While they are at lunch, each classroom needs a volunteer to "watch" the class while the children eat lunch in their classroom.  Please, if you are able to help, contact Deb Weiss-Collins at drbith@aol.com

The BPC is already starting to look towards next school year and is looking for volunteers to coordinate many of our activities. If you'd be interested in  joining in the fun please contact Lynn Brown at

Family Help Needed

Last week, a family living on Beallsville Road tragically lost their home to fire.  Thankfully, the Spano/Earp Family, next-door neighbors to Jim Snider, went unhurt.  Jennifer and Dave, with children Nick (10) and Courtney (16) are in need of our assistance as they have lost everything.

In the spirit of our mission of Joy, Support, and Excellence, the school community would like to lend its support.  To that end, we have reached out to Luke Fedder, Barnesville Town Commissioner and Acting Mayor, who is heading the relief effort.  He informed us that contributions would be much appreciated and can be made in the following ways:

1.       Gift cards, cash or checks:

a.       Made out to: The Town of Barnesville

b.      Mailed to: The Town of Barnesville, PO BOX 95, Barnesville, MD 20838

c.       Please indicate Spano/Earp family

OR

2.       Personal delivery to Barnesville Town Hall:

b.      Located in the town of Barnesville on the corner of 109 & Barnesville Road

              c.      Donations of clothing, toiletries, non-perishable goods or monetary donations will be accepted

Any questions can be directed to:

Pre-K Star of the Week

Well, we had another fun week with our Star Sangita!  On Monday, Sangita shared her poster and we got to see many members of her family.  On Tuesday, we had one of Sangita's favorite treats - cupcakes with Dora and Boots on top!  Yummy :)  Then, on Wednesday, Sangita's mom came in and showed us some cool things about India.  She showed us some traditional clothes that they wear there because it can be very hot!  Sangita's mom also showed us some of the animals that live there, including the peacock which is the country's national bird.  Finally, we got to play a game that was invented in India called Carrom.  It's like pool, but without the sticks, and it uses some different pieces.  It was a lot of fun to play.  It was a great week to learn more about Sangita and her family.  Thank you so much!!
One Million Hours of Service

Please send me your community service hours for April 2011!

Many of our families generously donate their time and talent to community service outside of Barnesville. When you do, please let us know! We have recently joined the NAIS (National Association of Independent Schools) "One Million Hours of Service" initiative.  NAIS has challenged its 1,400 member schools (including Barnesville) to collectively perform at least one million hours of community service this year. Everyone in the school community is invited to join - students, families, faculty, staff, administrators, and trustees.

I will be acting as the contact person for this important initiative and tracking our community service hours. When you give back to your community, please send me a quick e-mail with the kind of service you are performing (i.e. working directly with people in need, organizing a charity fundraiser, participating in a charity event like a run/walk, etc.) and the hours.  I'll do the rest!

Together we can make a difference; together we can BE the difference!

Thanks!
