| From Our Head of School | | . |
As sure as the sun rises and sets, every May I can rely on hearing three things from our parents, teachers, and administrators: It’s mid-May already? How did the year go by so quickly?! Have you seen the school calendar? There’s an event going on just about every single day! I don’t know how we’ll get everything done between now and graduation! Yet as perennial as these lamentations are, I wouldn’t trade May and June for anything. Yes, there are a few more projects (a few?), a few more events, a few more late nights in preparation – but if you can take just a moment to step back and look at the glory that is this time of year, you will see a calendar full of meaningful events that are the embodiment of Barnesville’s mission. Already, we have come together to enjoy May Day, Spring Gala, 4th grade State Fair, 1st grade Cinco de Mayo, 5th grade Civil War presentation, and the Young Performers play. Our students have taken part in field trips to the Petting Farm (EC & 8th grade), the Pollin farm & residence (Kindergarten), Gettysburg and Harper’s Ferry (5th grade), Sheridan Mountain Camp (6th grade), Six Flags for Physics Day (8th grade), and Shady Grove Hospital (Wizard of Oz lead cast). This week, our 7th graders will head out to a Buddhist temple, 4th grade will visit Fort Frederick, and our Spring Musical, The Wizard of Oz, will be performed. And in the weeks to come, we have even more field trips (2nd grade to Miyako’s Restaurant, 3rd grade to Black Hills Regional Park, 6th grade to Walters Art Gallery, 5th-7th grade to Sandy Point State Park, 8th grade to New York City) and special events, such as Arts & Academics Night, EC Father’s Day celebration, the Variety Show, Lower School Field Day, Middle School Olympics, Beach Day, Graduation Dinner, all ending with our 8th Grade Graduation Ceremony. It’s an exhaustive list - it was exhausting to type! - and yet I’m sure that I’ve left out a half-dozen other events and field trips. As I write it out, though, I am filled with gratitude for our teachers and staff who make all these wonderful activities and special occasions possible. I also thank you, our parents, for providing us with these outstanding children and supporting us as we raise them together. So if all of the above seems overwhelming, take heart – we will all make it together to June 10th. And if my years in education have shown me one other thing, it’s that sometime this summer, perhaps sooner, perhaps later, you’ll be itching for this happy buzz of activity all over again. John Huber

| What's Happening in the Classroom? | | - The students celebrated Earth Day today with their buddies by building sculptures out of recyclable materials. They had a great time and the creativity was flowing! The sculptures were displayed at Morning Meeting in the gym for all to see.

- The middle school musical "The Wizard of Oz" takes place tonight and tomorrow night at 7:30 PM in the gymnasium/performing arts center. The cast has been hard at work for months and the performance promises to be wonderful!!! Admission is free.
- Eighth grade exams take place next Tuesday and Wednesday, May 24th and 25th.
- Reminder: Eighth grade parents should return the Graduation Dinner Reservation Form as soon as possible to Vickie Roos.
- The middle school Sports Awards assembly will take place June 8th at 8:30 AM in the gym. Middle school athletes will be introduced and coaches will present a few individual awards.

Tooth Box Report – Just for Fun!
Three tooth boxes left my office since the last BITS. Sydney Bennett in First Grade lost her tooth on May 9th. Sam Jensen (1st grade) wanted his loose tooth pulled on May 10 but it was not ready to get into a tooth box for the tooth fairy until May 12th. I did not have to pull it out for him. Alex Brown (3rd grade) lost his tooth on May 16th to complete this BITS update. | |
