Exchange Students Are Here * Peace Week * 7th & 8th Grade Language Arts Projects * 2012 Gala
Exchange Students are Here
Our four exchange students from Peru arrived successfully and are settling in to the Barnevsille Community. Please give them a warm welcome if you see them on campus. The students are pictured with their host buddies on the Tidbits banner above: Nicolas with Brian Huber; Paulina with Abby Smith; Ariana with Analiese Pappas; and Maria Jose with Anne Hundertmark.
Peace Week
In honor of Martin Luther King Jr., Barnesville students celebrated Peace Week from Jan. 9-13. The topic this year was Take a Stand, Lend a Hand! Let's End Bullying. Activities included writing and performing skits, recording ways to combat bullying on paper hands, constructing a Peace Tree; a few students even wrote poems and a rap song. The week culminated in a special all-school Peace Parade & Ceremony where students shared their ideas, performed their works and lit candles for Peace.

View a slideshow of the week's activities and watch a video of the final assembly, shot and edited by Sabrina Kontner.
7th & 8th Grade Language Arts Projects
On Jan. 19 the 7th and 8th graders presented their Language Arts projects in the gym in a museum-style format. Visitors included faculty and staff, and students from other classes who listened to brief oral presentations from each of the students. The 8th graders assumed the roles of authors they researched for the Author's Wax Museum, while the 7th graders presented biographical information about prominent individuals who overcame a disability for the Disability Project.

Raffle Baskets
The excitement for Family Fun Night is growing. Displays of Raffle Basket items are beginning to line the hallways and the kids can be heard exclaiming, "I want this," and 'I want that." Their eyes are feasting on:
  • The New Orleans American Girl Dolls (Cecile & Marie-Grace)
  • Legos
  • A Candy Basket
  • A Movie Bucket
This is just a teaser... More displays will go up later this week.

Make your kids' wishes come true by donating a Raffle Basket item or gift card (check out the 2012 Gala Wish List at Amazon.com), or asking your favorite vendor to support the school. Many businesses are happy to donate gift certificates and items or services as a way of promoting their establishment to the Barnesville Community. Take a donation form and letter to your favorite shop or restaurant and find out how they can help support our School. No donation is too small! The donation deadline is January 31.

Publish Your Child's Artwork
Show off your child's artistic talents in the Barnesville at the Bayou Family Fun Night Catalog. Purchase a full-page, full-color commemorative ad for $25 and your child's work of art will be published. Ad specifics are available on the Ad Contract or email Kristen Carter with questions. Please return your form and artwork to Kristen by January 31.
