Week 1: June 18-22
Advanced Robotics

Mrs. Nikitina offers an advanced Lego Robotics camp designed for campers who have attended robotic camp in the past. This camp includes new challenges and an opportunity to show off your robot programming skills.

Drama Camp

It’s all about one act plays and you are producer, director and actor. Write your own or use one from a book. Costumes or no costumes? Use the whole stage, just the apron, or perform on the floor. Have a large cast, small ensemble, or a one man show. Campers make all the decisions.

Week 2: June 25-29
Hiking & Biking Adventures

Join Mr. Hart for a week of adventures. Hike Sugarloaf Mountain, bike the C&O Canal, head out to the local parks or down to Washington, D.C. Campers spend Monday morning planning the week’s adventures with Mr. Hart. Each day brings a new challenge and a whole lot of fun!

Week 3: July 9-13
Adventure Bound

If you enjoy extreme sports, and great outdoor activities, join Barnesville and Calleva as we experience the low and high ropes courses, hiking through Sugarloaf, tubing and rafting down the river.

Week 4: July 15-20
Sports Adventures

Mr. Hart is off on another week of adventures, this time with a sports theme. This week campers spend a day in Frederick watching the Keys play and get a behind the scenes tour of one of the Washington D.C. sports arenas. The rest of the week campers play sports and experience other sports related adventures.

Week 5: July 23-27
Cooking Camp

Each day campers tackle a different culinary challenge. Campers plan and create culinary masterpieces. Will you bake cookies, cakes, and cupcakes or will you create nutritious snacks? Maybe you will make an entire meal? Mrs. Gekas provides the guidance and the campers provide the creativity.

Propellin Melons

You’ve heard of Pumpkin Chunkin; join us for the summer camp version of this popular autumn activity. Design, build and test your own catapult. See how far you can get a melon to fly! The week concludes with our own Propellin Melons competition.

Week 6: July 30-August 3
Digital Photography

Join Mrs. Waldhorn on a photography journey. Visit Washington D.C., scenic gardens, local parks, and learn photographic techniques. Learn how to use Corel software to crop, improve and add effects to you photos. Create your own digital scrapbook and print some of your photographs. Campers must have their own cameras.

Week 7: August 6-10
Magnet Test Prep (half-day morning)

As students begin to think about high school, the placement tests become a source of anxiety. Ms Barnhart has tutored many students on how to prepare for high entrance exams. She brings her expertise to summer camp this year. This half day camp focuses on the Language Arts, Math, and Logical problem solving skills needed to excel on these exams. This camp is designed for students who plan to apply to the MCPS Magnet programs as well as independent high schools.

Helping Hands – Community Service

Community Service is important to us at the Barnesville School. This camp is your opportunity to give back to your community. Campers are given a list of possible projects on Monday. They will discuss their options and decide on a plan of action. Will you clean up a stream or a hiking trail? Will you work in the school gardens or another school improvement project? Maybe you have your own ideas?
