In 2001, after the terrible tragedy of 9/11, Barnesville student Alex Gekas wrote a letter to the men and women who responded to the scene. Her letter was picked up by Memphis, TN firefighter Miller Stroud, who was so moved by her words, he kept the folded letter in his shirt pocket. He wrote to Alex expressing how much her letter helped him through the tough days of clean-up. Alex then wrote a letter to Oprah Winfrey with her wish to meet this man whose life she touched.
