Music and Drama are integral parts of The Barnesville School. Song rings through the hallsas students participate in music class be it singing, dancing, playing instruments or listening to classical and cultural/world music. Lower school music students explore various percussion instruments as well as the recorder. Middle school students have weekly instruction on piano and guitar as well as instruction on percussion instruments.
There are many opportunities to participate in a number of performances throughout the year. Lower School students perform in the Holiday Show as well as a May Day celebration in the beginning of May. This celebration is especially joyful as the students come over the hill singing and performing traditional folk dances.
Interested Middle School students have the opportunity to audition and participate in the Fall Play, normally held in November, and the Spring Musical normally held in May. The entire Middle School participates in a January Jubilee that highlights skills learned in class. This can range from singing, acting, playing an instrument or dancing.
New this year is the opportunity for Middle School students to audition for the First Annual Battle of the Bands scheduled for March. Grandparents Day in November, Arts & Academics Night in the spring, as well as individual classroom performances are rich with music and theater presentations.
In addition, The Barnesville School provides a platform for students in grades 3-8 who
wish to participate in the Variety Show. This is normally held the last week of school in
June.
