We’re giving you one more reason to bid early and often! When you are the first person to place your bid sticker on an item’s bid sheet, your bidder number will be entered into a special raffle at no additional cost. The winner from that drawing will win a prize (value $300). There is no limit on the number of times your bid number can be entered, so the more you are willing to be the first bidder on items, the more chances you’ll have to win. You only need to be the first bidder, not the winning bidder. Runners up will get to take home centerpieces! Enjoy Express Check-Out with a Credit Card Swipe! When you check in at the Gala, you can register a credit card to take care of your bill for the night. Just like express check-out at a hotel, when you pre-swipe your card at check-in, you can just pick up your bill at the end of the night, grab your packages and go! | Move Up Day | | The BPC will provide FREE LUNCH on Tuesday, May 11th for Move-Up Day. We will serve Mamma Lucia's cheese pizza for all students and staff! As always, students will "move up" to the next grade in the afternoon to learn what they can expect next year! In addition, we'll be welcoming some of our new students into the classrooms as well! Parents, please keep an eye our for your children's Move Up Day Packets, which will be sent home that day as well! | |
| Keeping Tabs on your Child in Today's Internet Society | | The Barnesville School will be hosting an informative workshop and discussion with Debbie Kovalsky, Internet Safety Consultant for Computer Training Wheels, on May 11th at 7:30 pm. Learn how to appropriately keep tabs on your child while they develop more independence. She will explain the ins and outs of IM, Chat, Blogging, Facebook and expose common areas of concern. | Barnesville Community Service Project | | Support the Hope in Richmond BPC end of year community service project! During the final weeks of school Barnesville students and families will have an opportunity to support soccer and HIV/AIDS education/prevention programs for young people in a small community in Richmond, South Africa through donations of used and new soccer equipment, as well as other supplies. | | New Board Trustees | | Dear Barnesville School Community, As we close out an exciting and productive school year, I am writing you today to inform you of some changes to the composition of the Board of Trustees for the 2010/11 school year.
By unanimous vote in our April meeting, the Board is pleased to have elected the following new members:
Brian Hundertmark, father of sixth grader Ann and fourth grader Gretchen and husband of Laurie, received his J.D. from the George Washington University National Law Center and currently is an attorney at Bethesda-based law firm Garson Claxton, LLC. In addition to his role as frequent Barnesville School tour leader and member of the Dress Code Task Force, Brian is also active in the Poolesville community where he has served on the Chamber of Commerce and the Community and Economic Development Committee.
Mano Koilpillai, mother of first grader Anjuna and four year old Sangita, and wife of Carl Ohlke, comes to the Barnesville School Board with 17 years of leadership experience in non-profit institution financial management, and currently serves as Director of Finance for the Internet Society in Reston, Virgina. Mano holds a Masters degree in finance from George Washington University and is a Certified Public Accountant.
Nelson Tyler II, father of seventh grader Nevadaand fifth grader Camie and husband of Oiris, is CEO of Tyler Companies, a successful Ijamsville-based real estate, contracting and services company. Nelson has a Bachelors degree in economics and business, and comes to the Barnesville Board with both deep family roots in the school (his mother had served on the Board in the 1990’s), and a strong connection to the upcounty community.
Dawn Walton, mother of first graders Cal and Sunny and pre-kindergartener Lucy, and husband of Craig, is a practicing neonatologist at Holy Cross Hospital. She received her medical degree from the George Washington University School of Medicine. Dawn has been an active and committed volunteer at the school, and currently serves on the Staff Appreciation Committee.
Alex Zukiwski, father of third grader Alexis and first grader Lauren and husband of Laura, received his medical degree from the Universityof Calgary and currently serves as the Executive Vice President of Clinical Research and Chief Medical Officer for MedImmune in Gaithersburg. In addition to his extensive business and professional accomplishments, Alex also serves on the Montgomery Hospice Board.
We are fortunate to be adding such a talented and committed group of new trustees to out Board in advance of what promises to be an important period in the ongoing development of the school.

Doug Fiedler, father of alumni Sarah, Austin and Julia, has served with distinction on the Board for a full six year term, bringing a strong sense of strategic insight and business acumen to the Board and helped guide the School as Audit Committee Chair.
Mac Jacoby, community member, has actually served on the Barnesville Board for a total of fifteen years, across two different stretches on the Board. Mac’s sense of organizational history and thoughtful expertise as an independent school educator will be missed.
Lee Langstaff, community member, has brought a valuable perspective as a neighbor and strong supporter of the School over her six years on the Board. Lee’s deep roots in the Agricultural Reserve and extensive expertise in strategic planning were very valuable additions to the Board.
Deb Weiss-Collins, mother of second grader Zach and alumna Alex, has been an extremely active member of the Board for her full six year term, participating in a variety of task forces and committees, and helping to plan many Board-sponsored events. Deb’s commitment to faculty support and excellence brought an important voice to many Board discussions over her tenure.
Joe Slattery, father of fourth grader Kaitlin and first grader Ryan will be leaving us after four years of valuable service on the Board, most recently serving as Treasurer and Finance Committee Chair. Joe and his family will be relocating to the Raleigh, North Carolina area at the end of this school year.
I would like to extend a special thank you to everyone on our Board of Trustees for their service and commitment to The Barnesville School this past year. Their leadership has positioned our school to achieve great things for our students in the coming years.

| May Day | | Lower School will celebrate May Day on Friday, May 14th at 10:30 on the playground around the May Pole! Come and join us- the merriment will be led by the traditional Hobby Horse and Teaser, and all Lower School students will be participating. Everyone is welcome to come watch! On that day, each Lower School child needs to bring a flower or two, or a small “branch of May”, with them to school. Boys should wear nice, comfortable pants or shorts, and a nice shirt of spring colors, such as pastel tones, or muted stripes or plaid. Girls should wear festive but comfortable spring clothing suitable for dancing. No jeans or T-shirts should be worn that day! All students should wear shoes with non-skid soles to ensure that there will be no slipping while dancing. Fourth Grade boys should wear khaki pants and a long-sleeved white oxford-style shirt.
