Summer Camp >  Lower School Leonardos: 3rd - 5th Grade > 

Have Mona Lisa Smiles!    
The Lower School Leonardos is a traditional day-camp designed for students entering third through fifth grade in Fall 2013. Each week has two different themes to choose from. Your camper can pick their favorite for the week. (Note: Drama Camp is a two-week program during weeks 4 & 5.)
 
There are three exciting options for your campers to choose:
  • Full-Day Camp: Sessions are held Monday through Friday and include Theme Camp in the morning, an hour lunch and recess from Noon to 1 p.m., and Rec Camp in the afternoon.
  • Theme Camp Only: Theme Camp is held Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to Noon and on Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Rec Camp Only: Rec Camp is held Monday through Thursday from 1 to 4 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Fridays are Spirit Days; each day features a different full-camp theme.

Descriptions    

Week 1: June 17 - 21 

Adventure Bound
Extreme sports and great outdoor activities fill the week as Barnesville and Calleva join together. Experience the low and high ropes courses, hiking through the Sugarloaf Mountains, or tubing/rafting down the Potomac River.
 
Space Camp
Travel to the Moon, the stars, the Sun and Mars; learn all about space during this exciting week and answer questions such as, “Can we live on the Moon or Mars?”, “What do stars look like up close?”, and “How hot is the sun?” It will be an exciting week of space exploration.
 
Friday Spirit Day: A Bug's Life 
 
Week 2: June 24 - 28
 
Advanced Lego Robotics
Lego lovers and robot lovers: combine your passions and build and program Lego robots. Look forward to new challenges and an opportunity to show off your robot programming skills.(Designed for campers with past Lego robotic camp experience.)
 
On The Farm
Agriculturalists and foodies alike will enjoy learning about the science involved in farming. Explore food origins and learn about organic versus non-organic food. Trips to working farms will help you discover what’s on your dinner plates.

Barnesville Robotics
More Legos and more robots are in play in this exciting summer enrichment program. Through the Lego Mindstorm program, you will work in teams to build and program robots to follow commands. Each team will participate in the final robotic exhibition.
 
Fantastic Contraptions
Rube Goldberg created intricate machines to perform the simplest tasks. Using Goldberg’s principles, try to create complicated contraptions to accomplish tasks such as flipping a light switch, opening a book, or closing a door. The more steps the better!

Explore Our History
Step back in time to explore our local history. Battlefields, historic trails and monuments wait for you to learn more about the rich historic area that is Montgomery and surrounding counties.

Weeks 4 & 5: July 15 - 26 
 

Drama Camp           
Explore your inner-thespian and spend two weeks with Annie and Daddy Warbucks! Learn stage directions and choreography as we prepare for a camp-wide production of Annie on Friday, July 26.

Week 5: July 22 - 26 
 

Movie Making
Lights, Camera, Action! Learn how to shoot and edit your very own movies. Use video cameras and iMovie to tell your stories and even get the chance to record the Drama Camp’s production on Friday. Parents are invited for the Barnesville Summer Camp Film Festival, Friday, July 26.

Top Chef: It’s a Party!
Chef Gekas returns with more fun food challenges that will teach you everything you need to know to throw a fabulous party for your friends. Party food, decorations, and even party favors are all on the menu.
 
Circus Dayz
The circus, through the way of art, is coming to Barnesville! Join Mrs. Waldhorn for an exploration of the works of Alexander Calder, Picasso and other circus artists. Create your own circus art to display at our Camp Art Show on Friday, August 2.
 
Friday Spirit Day: Game Show Mania 
 
Week 7: August 5 - 9 
 
CSI
Who done it? Put your sleuthing skills to work and investigate the science behind solving crimes. Learn how to take fingerprints and follow the suspect’s trail. Each day brings a new problem to solve. Where will the evidence lead?
 
Recycled Artwork
Turn trash into creative works of art. Have fun raiding the recycling bins and then use innovation to make art with materials that would otherwise be sent to the recycling center. Turn a yogurt cup into a pencil holder or soda cans into fish… let your creativity run wild! All projects will be displayed at our Recycled Art Show on Friday, Aug. 9.
