Fourth Graders Discover US Regions

Fourth Graders at Barnesville took a trip around the regions of the United States to culminate their year-long States Project. Each student selected a state and throughout the year worked to research essential facts unique to that region . Students researched everything from the state flag to its industrial and agricultural composition. They developed comprehensive binders of their research, which included unique interesting facts such as “In North Carolina, elephants may not be used to plow cotton fields.”

In addition to their binders, the fourth graders created trifold display boards of their research for the State Fair, which was recently held in the gym. Students welcomed parents, faculty, and other students greeting them with a state-specific pamphlet, business cards, signs all created by them in their computer lab. The families and students also prepared and enjoyed state foods and cuisine with other Barnesville classes.  As visitors passed through each state, they learned a wealth of information. Each student offered an introduction that was unique and special only to their state. Following the fair, parents were also invited to attend the students’ formal animated Power Point presentations of their individual states displaying scans of their original artwork.
