Barnesville Campers Learn Pizza!

Barnesville Summer Day Campers had a “supreme” week during Pizza Camp at The Barnesville School!

Campers from Pre-Kindergarten through 9th Grade investigated everything from the origins of pizza, to the different crusts, ingredients and styles of pizza, ranging from traditional style to tortilla pizzas to dessert pizzas.

The campers travelled to California Pizza Kitchen at the Rio & Washingtonian Center to learn about the process in the kitchen. They were given a tour of the facility and an opportunity to work behind the counter selecting ingredients and dressing their own individual pizzas to enjoy.

In addition to restaurant-style, campers even taste-tested local pizza delivery shops. They evaluated the traditional cheese as well as a more unique bacon pizza. The winning cheese delivery shop was Cugini’s in Poolesville, citing good crust and cheese flavor. The winning bacon pizza was Pizza 500 in Clarksburg. Students enjoyed the crispiness of the bacon.

At the end of camp, students developed their Ultimate Pizza. Ingredient ideas include pineapple, macaroni and cheese, and cheeseburger toppings.
