After School Activities 2017-2018

Barnesville School offers students opportunities to extend their interests beyond the traditional curriculum with our unique after school programs. Students are able to select from a variety of activities.

If needed, Kids Club is available at the end of the After School Activity for $100 per session per child. Sign up available through the registration form.

Chess Club

Wednesday | 3:15pm-4:15pm | Grades K-8 | 8 student minimum | $125 (plus supplies)

Your Best Chess is not your average chess club! Dr. B and Ms. Ferry bring with them a collective 54 years of experience teaching and playing chess. In their one-of-a-kind program, students are provided with a 10-week curriculum tailored to their ability level, with ample play time. The season culminates with a Tournament Trophy Day where students put their new skills to the test. Classes will take place in middle school room C. Register at www.yourbestchess.com.

Landscape and Nature Discoveries (LAND)

Fridays on 12/8, 12/15, 1/5, 1/12, 1/19 | 3:15pm-4:15pm | Grades K-4 | 8 student minimum | $100

The Landscape and Nature Club provides an outdoor hands-on experience that sparks a child’s excitement and curiosity about nature. The students discover and learn about weather, insects, plants, wildlife, and the importance of Montgomery County’s Agricultural Reserve. The students will be exploring nature right there on the school grounds. They also participate in enhancing the appearance of the school grounds by maintaining existing gardens, planting flowers and bulbs, or creating new garden areas. Science In Photography

Tuesdays | 3:15pm-4:15pm | Grades 2-5 | 5 student minimum | $195

A photographic journey through traditional and digital photography designed by Pulitzer Prize Award winning photojournalist, Reginald A. Pearman, Jr. Students learn elements of composition and light as they apply to the art of photography. Assignments are completed in each class relating to perspective photography, macro photography, and conceptual photography. Experiments with light creating cyanotypes and photograms offer students a science element to this art form. Classes will take place in middle school room C. Register at www.mathnphotos.com.

Studio Art

Thursday | 3:00pm-4:15pm | Grades 3-8 | 5 student minimum | $180

In the first portion of the session, Ms. Eargle offers students the opportunity to learn to draw and paint from observation, memory, and imagination. The second half focuses on sculpture, using clay, plaster casting, found objects, and other sculptural media. Register through the school website.

Young Artist Workshop

Wednesday | 3:00pm-4:00pm | Grades K-2 | 5 student minimum | $160

Students will experiment with a wide range of materials and processes, such as painting, drawing, collage, monotype printmaking, and sculpture. Each session offers different lessons, so repeat students are encouraged to enroll. Register through the school website.

Young Performers

Mondays | 3:15pm-4:30pm | Grades 2-4 | 6 student minimum | $200

Come spend Monday afternoons with Mrs. Gekas, Mrs. Taylor, and other Young Performers to develop acting and singing skills in a positive, creative, and encouraging environment. We will have fun learning to be actors of the stage through theater games, characterization, scene development, and music. Classes take place in the gym. Register through the school website.

LAND Wreath Making Workshop
Celebrate the holidays with LAND's Winter Greens Workshop, after school on December 14th. Students will create beautiful decor using nature's best materials. $15 to participate. Email Amy Seely at amy@landandnature.org to sign up.
