Sun Shines on Traditional May Day Celebration
Posted 05/09/2018 01:33PM

Barnesville’s traditional May Day Celebration took place outside under sunny skies and included songs, poems, dances, and weaving ribbons around the Maypole.

Lower School children opened the program by singing Unite and Unite, led by Music Teacher Anna Pollitt who was accompanied by Retired Music Teacher Nancy Taylor on the piano. Mrs. Taylor nurtured the May Day tradition of folk music and dance over the years at Barnesville, and her husband built the Maypole. Ms. Pollitt maintained traditions while also adding poetry readings and xylophone solos.

The celebration closed with the entire Lower School singing the May Day Carol. Before leaving, each child placed a "Branch of May" under the Maypole. May Day is a Barnesville School of Arts & Sciences Signature Curriculum Event.
