Barnesville Middle School students took on the personas of insects such as a blind earthworm and a rhyming centipede for a harrowing journey across the Atlantic in a performance of Roald Dahl’s classic story of “James and the Giant Peach.” Audiences were delighted by the the story of the insect travelers and their human companion, James, who find friendship and eventual fame through adventures aboard an enormous peach.
Barnesville’s Fall Play involved a cast of eleven actors supported by a three-person tech crew, all under the direction of Preschool Teacher Elizabeth Gekas. About a dozen other students helped to build and paint the set.
After the first full performance, students presented Ms. Gekas with a copy of the book signed by all of the performers.
She thanked them, saying, “This is one of my favorite stories!”
All of the actors did a superb job bringing a beloved story to life.
