Welcome to our friends from Peru! For three weeks this January and February, Barnesville School of Arts & Sciences will be hosting four students from the Leonardo Da Vinci School in Lima, Peru. Students stay with a Barnesville host family and attend classes with their host student. Weekly field trips are also planned and include a trip to the Smithsonian, Mt. Vernon, the National Cathedral, and historic downtown Frederick. Our guests from Peru are fully immersed in the Barnesville School community and welcomed by students in every grade.
As part of the exchange, Barnesville students in 7th or 8th grade have an opportunity to spend three weeks over summer break in Peru. Barnesville students stay with a Peruvian host family, attend classes at the Leonardo Da Vinci School, and enjoy field trips in and around Lima. A highlight of the trip is the four days spent in Cuzco and Machu Picchu.
This year marks Barnesville’s 15th year of participating in the Peruvian exchange, providing our students with a unique opportunity to deepen their understanding of another culture, raise awareness of the global community, and increase Spanish fluency. Students from both schools form deep and lasting bonds with each other and continue to keep in touch long after returning home.
