We have 90 MINUTES of P.E. each week for grades K-8.
At Barnesville, all children receive basic instruction in fine and gross motor skills, healthy lifestyle habits, and education of the mind and body through a comprehensive physical education program. Our facilities include: a full gymnasium, outdoor basketball court, challenge ropes course, cross country course, and acres of wide open space for outdoor sports, games, and fun.
In Lower School, preschool students receive P.E. two times per week for 20 minutes. Kindergarten students meet for P.E. three times a week for 30 minutes. Students in first through fourth grades participate in physical education two times per week for 45 minutes. Lower School students wear their normal active school clothing and non-scuffing sneakers for their P.E. classes. Additional opportunities are available for students to pursue sports and recreational activities through our intramural and athletics program.
Middle School students (fifth-eighth grade) learn and apply safe and effective strength training exercises and flexibility exercises. They learn about cardiovascular fitness, practical and healthy lifestyle habits. They learn and apply many life-time activities and games with an emphasis on fundamentals and strategies. Students also learn and develop effective team building and leadership strategies through cooperative games.
Middle School students receive physical education twice per week for 45 minutes. Thay are required to dress in a P.E. uniform (Barnesville School shirt/sweatshirt, shorts or sweat pants, and sneakers). Approved athletic shorts/sweatpants must be designed for athletic activity and permit a full range of motion.
