Barnesville seventh graders have been researching notable people who have worked to overcome challenges related to a physical or mental disability. Students wrote biographical essays, created PowerPoint presentations, and gave oral presentations about their subject's challenges and accomplishments.

As part of their study of physics and Newton's laws of motion, eighth graders built bottle rockets from recycled materials and used a bike pump and water to propel them into the sky. They measured the distance each rocket traveled and compared variables that impacted each flight.

Leonardo Da Vinci School exchange students shared a presentation about Peruvian history and culture including a celebratory song and dance featuring a drum box called a "cajon" that they left as a farewell gift.

Barnesville's partnership with Sandy Spring Museum was featured in a Maryland Humanities podcast. The "Honoring our Past, Celebrating the Future" student art exhibit was on display throughout the month of January, with a pre-closing reception for the community taking place February 2.

Each January, Barnesville School of Arts & Sciences celebrates Peace Week with lessons and activities that honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. while also exploring the broader concept of peace that inspired and guided him. This year's theme was "Upstanders."

Barnesville fifth graders finished up their social studies segment on the War of 1812 with a visit to Fort McHenry in Baltimore where they toured the fort and helped the park rangers lower and fold a flag.

Families from Barnesville School of Arts & Sciences donated more than 180 gifts for 15 families served by The Dwelling Place. Members of the School's Student Council helped sort, pack and deliver the packages that fulfill holiday wishes for local families in need.

Barnesville Middle School students took on the personas of insects such as a blind earthworm and a rhyming centipede for a harrowing journey across the Atlantic in a performance of Roald Dahl's classic story of "James and the Giant Peach."
