Barnesville’s Character Education program is designed to help students learn to embrace nine core values: kindness, service, perseverance, respect, initiative, courage, cooperation, responsibility, and honesty. These concepts are integrated into Morning Meeting, assemblies, Buddy activities, classroom discussions, and community service learning.
Service was the focus for October, and on Monday, October 26th all students had the day off school to engage in service for others. Families were provided with a list of activities to choose from or were welcome to participate in something of their own choosing. Barnesville students spread cheer and good will far and wide, and learned the value of doing for others, by engaging in service activities that included baking cookies for their local fire department, helping with chores around the house, raking leaves, and even building birdhouses.
Our teaching encourages students to explore how subjects relate to one another, helping them to make connections that spark inquiry and deepen understanding.
