Barnesville’s Buddy Program is a social-emotional learning opportunity for our students to connect and make friends across grade levels. Students in younger grades are paired with older students, allowing students to develop meaningful relationships throughout the year with other age groups.
On February 12, 1st & 4th grade students met for Buddy Time to learn about Lunar New Year and welcome the Year of the Ox!
Working with their buddies, students learned about the symbolic importance of dragons in Chinese culture and then created their own dragons using red paper. After, the buddies engaged in conversation while making mosaic oxen.
According to ChineseNewYear.net, Oxen are the hard workers in the background, intelligent and reliable, but never demanding praise. These are values the students will strive to carry out in the year ahead.
Our teaching encourages students to explore how subjects relate to one another, helping them to make connections that spark inquiry and deepen understanding.
