8th Grader Ryan C. Brings Antarctica to Life for Lower School Students
Lower School students recently got a firsthand look at Antarctica through an engaging presentation by 8th grader Ryan C. Using his own photography, Ryan brought his trip trip to life–highlighting beautiful landscapes, diverse wildlife, and massive penguin colonies, including over 100,000 King Penguins!
Ryan walked students through his experience with confidence and excitement, using his own photography to bring each moment to life. From towering glaciers to close-up shots of wildlife, every image reflected not only the beauty of the landscape, but also Ryan's eye for storytelling!
One of the most memorable parts of his presentation focused on wildlife...especially PENGUINS! Ryan shared images of massive colonies, including over 100,000 King Penguins gathered at Saint Andrews Bay in South Georgia. He also shared highlights from sailing the Drake Passage, camping on the Antarctica Peninsula, and even plunging into freezing 32oF water. Ryan also spoke about wildlife conservation, helping students better understand the challenges animal–like penguins– face and why protecting these environments matter.
Reflecting on the experience, Ryan shared:
"My trip to Antarctica was unforgettable. We experienced so many wonders from Iguazu Falls to South Georgia Island. My favorite part of the trip was witnessing the 100,000+ King Penguins at Saint Andrews Bay in South Georgia, But there were so many other highlights such as taking a boat under some of the waterfalls at Iguazu Falls, sailing the Drake Passage, seeing hundreds of thousands of penguins from seven different species, camping on the Antarctic Peninsula, sea kayaking, plunging into 32*F water, visiting Elephant and Deception Islands, and simply taking in the beautiful landscape. The wildlife that we observed was truly immaculate. Some standout animals include Toco Toucans, many different species of Seal, Albatross, and Penguins. Overall, It was a trip to remember!"
Ryan's presentation offered a meaningful experience–a chance for younger students to see what curiosity, courage, and passion can lead to. His willingness to share his journey, knowledge, and perspective made the presentation both educational and inspiring.
It was a special moment of connection across grade levels, and a reminder of how powerful student voices–and student stories can be.
