Character Education

Core Values

Nine core values are at the core of our character education curriculum, with a different value serving as the focus each month: Kindness, Service, Perseverance, Respect, Initiative, Courage, Cooperation, Responsibility, and Honesty.

These concepts are integrated into Morning Meeting, assemblies, Buddy activities, classroom discussions, and community service learning.
We value social responsibility and the development of personal values. Starting with the first handshake in the morning, Barnesville School's atmosphere encourages respect, responsibility, honesty, integrity, perseverance, and concern for self and others. We believe students develop social responsibility and values by their involvement in community service programs and through a curriculum where adults model and reinforce these values in school, the broader community, and the world.

Service Learning

Barnesville students and faculty participate in both grade-specific and school-wide service learning efforts each year. Annually, our school-wide efforts include a Help-the-Homeless mini-walk, a Veterans' Day celebration to raise money for the Fisher House and an adopt-a-family holiday gift program for The Dwelling Place. In addition, the School provides the location, as well as student and volunteer support for the annual Lymphoma Research Foundation Ride each September.
