BSAS Student Art Work | Branches of Peace on Display at BlackRock
Kay'La Portee & Alika Middleton
Today, all students visited the BlackRock Center for the Arts to view Branches of Peace, a collaborative installation showcasing artwork created by every student from PreK through 8th grade.
The installation grew from this year’s Peace Week theme, “From Seed to Forest,” which invited students to explore how individuals contribute to a thriving, just, and caring community. Inspired by Deepa Iyer’s Social Change Ecosystem Map, students reflected on an important question: What moves your heart?
Throughout the year, students ventured into Explorer Woods to select a stick that would become their personal symbol of peace. Using a variety of artistic materials and techniques, each student transformed their stick into a unique work of art that reflects their voice, values, and vision for a more peaceful world.
While each Peace Stick tells its own story, together they create a powerful forest of peace—a visual reminder that meaningful change happens when individuals come together in community. The installation represents creativity, collaboration, and the collective impact of student voices.
A special thank you goes to our 8th-grade students, who played an important role in designing and installing the exhibit. Their leadership helped bring the vision to life and created a meaningful gallery experience for the entire school. An incredible thank you to our very own art teacher, Ms. Alika, whose vision, creativity and dedication brought Branches of Peace to life.
For many students, seeing their artwork displayed in a professional gallery was both inspiring and empowering. The visit offered an opportunity to celebrate not only artistic achievement but also the values of peace, stewardship, and community that are central to The Barnesville Way.
The Branches of Peace installation serves as a beautiful reminder that every voice matters and that, together, we can create ripples of positive change that extend far beyond our campus.
Our teaching encourages students to explore how subjects relate to one another, helping them to make connections that spark inquiry and deepen understanding.
