We Bloom Bold: Barnesville Celebrates Pride, Belonging, and Community

On June 3, the Barnesville School of Arts & Sciences community came together for our annual Pride celebration, We Bloom Bold—a joyful culmination of a year spent exploring social change, belonging, and the importance of showing up for one another.
Inspired by our ongoing social justice work and Deepa Iyer’s Social Change Ecosystem Map, students reflected on the many ways individuals contribute to a stronger, more inclusive community. Throughout the year, students engaged in meaningful conversations, collaborative projects, creative expression, and critical thinking around what it means to build a world where everyone feels valued and respected. We Bloom Bold provided an opportunity to celebrate those lessons together.

The day began with Lower School students gathering in the lunchroom to prepare for the We Bloom Bold Rainbow Feast. Each class took responsibility for coloring a different batch of noodles, symbolizing the unique identities that make up our community. When combined, the rainbow noodles became a vibrant representation of unity, belonging, and inclusion. Students also worked together to prepare a rainbow fruit salad while others decorated the outdoor classroom, created banners and posters, and transformed campus spaces into colorful celebrations of self-expression and community.

At lunchtime, students and faculty gathered around a longer table to share a meal and reflect on the power of connection. The shared feast served as a reminder that building community means making room for everyone and ensuring all voices have a place at the table.

The afternoon brought students together in their social change groups for collaborative activities, parade preparations, and community-building stations. Creativity, teamwork, and joy were on full display as students prepared for the highlight of the day—a colorful parade around the soccer field celebrating individuality, inclusion, and pride.

Following the parade, students gathered for a flag ceremony, speeches, and ally shout-outs, recognizing the importance of supporting one another and standing up for a community where everyone is free to be their authentic selves.

The celebration concluded with the Free to Be Rainbow Stage Dance Party, where students, faculty, and staff came together in laughter, music, and movement. It was a joyful ending to a day that reflected the heart of Barnesville: a community rooted in respect, belonging, courage, and care.

As we close another school year, We Bloom Bold reminds us that growth happens when we nurture one another, celebrate our differences, and create spaces where every person can thrive. Together, we continue to bloom boldly as a community forest—stronger, brighter, and more connected because of one another.
