Imagine, Explore, Grow, Achieve: Kindergarten Students Experience the Magic of Live Theater
Kay'La Portee & Elizabeth Gekas
At Barnesville School of Arts & Sciences, imagination and exploration extend far beyond the classroom. Recently, our Kindergarten students brought these values to life during a memorable field trip to Imagination Stage, where they experienced Chicka Chicka Boom Boom: The Musical.
Filled with colorful characters, lively music, and creative storytelling, the performance brought a familiar children’s story to life in an entirely new way. Students watched with excitement as the alphabet came alive on stage, discovering the magic of live theater and the joy of experiencing a story together.
For many young learners, experiences like these offer opportunities to see the world through a different lens. Theater encourages children to use their imaginations, make connections, express emotions, and develop an appreciation for the arts.
The excitement continued well after the performance ended, as students eagerly shared their favorite moments, songs, and characters with one another. The musical’s catchy tune, “LMNOP,” quickly became a crowd favorite!
Growing Through Shared Experiences
Beyond the performance itself, the field trip provided a meaningful opportunity for students to strengthen their sense of community.
Our Kindergarteners sat alongside their Pre-K buddies, taking on the important responsibility of being positive role models for their younger peers. Through this shared experience, students practiced kindness, leadership, and responsibility while building connections across grade levels.
These moments reflect the heart of #TheBarnesvilleWay, where learning is rooted in curiosity, compassion, collaboration, and a strong sense of belonging.
At Barnesville, our guiding words,Imagine. Explore. Grow. Achieve., are more than a statement. They are woven into the experiences that shape each student’s educational journey.
Through opportunities like this field trip, students are encouraged to imagine new possibilities, explore the world around them, grow through meaningful relationships, and achieve confidence as learners and members of their community.
Continuing the Exploration Beyond the Classroom
The magic of live theater doesn’t have to end when the curtain closes!
A special thank you to Elizabeth Gekas, Barnesville’s Kindergarten teacher and Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging Coordinator, for helping foster meaningful learning experiences and sharing additional opportunities for families to explore the performing arts together.

Where Curiosity Leads to Discovery
At Barnesville School of Arts & Sciences, we believe some of the most meaningful lessons happen when students are given the freedom to wonder, ask questions, create, and experience something new.
Whether exploring nature on our 30-acre campus, discovering new ideas through the arts and sciences, or watching a beloved story come alive on stage, our students are encouraged to approach the world with curiosity and confidence.
Because when children have opportunities to imagine, explore, grow and achieve, there’s no limit to what they can achieve.
Our teaching encourages students to explore how subjects relate to one another, helping them to make connections that spark inquiry and deepen understanding.
