Winter Olympics Come to PE Class

Kay'La Portee & Cheryl King
Over the past week, our students have been exploring the Winter Olympic Games in Physical Education, and it has been an inspiring and joyful experience for all!

Under the leadership of Coach King, our Athletic Director, students dove into a Winter Olympics unit that brought energy, teamwork, and smiles. Coach King opened the week with a torch relay, reminding students that the Olympics represent unity, perseverance, and joy.

Throughout the week, students rotated through Olympic-inspired events that kept them moving and thinking.
  • Speed skating and cross-country skiing tested endurance
  • Curling challenges required strategy and teamwork
  • Skeleton bobsled relays brought excitement and laughter
  • Ice hockey skill stations sharpened coordination and collaboration
What stood out the most was not who finished first. It was the cheers from the sidelines. The high-fives after a race. The determination to try again. Coach King consistently reminded students that Olympic athletes don't just win – they push through challenges, support their teammates, and never give up. "The energy, enthusiasm, and cooperation shown by our students were wonderful to see. They supported one another, celebrated effort, and embraced the spirit of friendly competition, truly embodying the Olympic values," says Coach King.

In between activities, students talked about how athletes from around the world come together through sport to promote peace and connection. Students reflected on what it means to persevere, how Olympic athletes never give up, push through challenges, and most importantly, remember that the greatest part of any game is simply being able to play.

By the end of the week, although no olympic medals were given–many important lessons were received. Effort mattered. Sportsmanship mattered. Community mattered.

Thanks to Coach King's leadership and enthusiasm, the Winter Olympics unit became more than a highlight of PE class. It became a celebration of movement, teamwork and the joy of coming together through sport.
