Barnesville School of Arts & Sciences came together to honor the service and sacrifice of our nation’s veterans during a meaningful Veterans Day ceremony.
Middle School students opened the program by welcoming and introducing special guests representing the U.S. Army, Navy, and Air Force. Our veteran guest speakers included: Staff Sergeant Tonya Ivy (U.S. Army), Edwin Hollins (U.S. Navy), Edward Mazurowski (U.S. Army), and Miguel Lopez (U.S. Air Force). Each veteran shared personal stories and reflections about their time in service—offering students a firsthand glimpse into the courage, teamwork, and dedication that define our armed forces.
Students listened intently as veterans spoke about the values of perseverance, leadership, and service to others—principles that resonate deeply with Barnesville’s mission of fostering empathy, responsibility, and global citizenship.
Bruce Phillips, the Director & local chapter representative from the
Fisher House Foundation, an organization that provides housing and support for military families, also spoke to the school community. During the ceremony, the school presented a generous donation of $1,127.55 collected from families, to support the foundation’s mission, reflecting Barnesville’s commitment to giving back and honoring those who serve.
The ceremony also included a moment of silence in remembrance of those who gave their lives in service to our country, a musical performance by students, and the entire school joining together in gratitude with a “Thank You for Your Service.”
Barnesville’s History Teacher, Mr. Chris Krebs expressed respect to all veterans, stating, “It is always an honor to have service men and women take time out of their schedules to impart some words to our students here at Barnesville. It's also amazing to have such generous families in the community donating toward The Fisher House, an organization created for the benefit of veterans and their loved ones. Our Veterans Day ceremony is a small but important part of what makes Barnesville special, and we thank everyone for their participation.”
Barnesville School is proud to continue this tradition of honoring veterans and helping students have meaningful connections—celebrating those whose courage and sacrifice continue to inspire future generations.
