Barnesville’s strong INTERDISCIPLINARY foundation prepares students for success in an increasingly diverse and INTERCONNECTED world. Teachers COLLABORATE on CROSS-CURRICULAR projects designed to help students make CONNECTIONS across subjects.
Kindergarten
Students visit an art museum to see the works of artists whose names begin with each letter of the alphabet. Throughout the year they create their own works in each artist’s style.
First Grade
Weavings, paintings, ceramics, and jewelry fill the classroom marketplace at a festival that celebrates a yearlong study of Mexico’s history, geography, and culture.
Second Grade
At the end of an interdisciplinary segment on Japan, students share journals about imagined travels throughout Japan and showcase related artwork, math, and science projects.
Third Grade
Students curate an Explorer Hall of Fame. They research and create life-sized figurines of famous explorers and chart their routes on maps.
Fourth Grade
Students conduct independent research on a chosen state and present their findings during a poster session, creating a tour-like experience for visitors.
Fifth Grade
Students visit Civil War battlefields and museums and then research figures whose names and deeds defined the era. They then present their researcher as an iconic persona.
Sixth Grade
Barnesville sixth graders each research a famous poet, then analyze their work, presenting highlights to an audience of fellow students and their parents.
Seventh Grade
Chemistry, physics, and behavioral hypotheses are tested and presented at the Seventh Grade Science Fair. Findings are presented to representatives from the local scientific community.
Eighth Grade
Eighth graders choose a favorite author to research in depth. They design an exhibit and bring the authors to life for visitors to the Authors’ Wax Museum.
