Grandparents & Special Friends Day — A Signature Barnesville Tradition

Each November, as the air turns crisp and the spirit of Thanksgiving settles over campus, the Barnesville School of Arts & Sciences welcomes grandparents and cherished friends for one of its most beloved traditions: Grandparents & Special Friends Day. It is a morning filled with joy, connection, and the unmistakable pride students feel as they share their school with the people who mean so much to them.

This year’s celebration opened with a heartfelt welcome from Head of School Suzanne Johnson, who reminded guests why this tradition is held during the Thanksgiving season:

“We intentionally hold this at the Thanksgiving time because we are immensely grateful for each and every one of you in our community. Thank you for being part of our family here at the Barnesville School. I wish you all a very happy Thanksgiving.”

The all-school assembly featured musical performances, readings, and a special book dedication from Librarian Gretchen Gobin, along with Eric Carle–themed presentations that brought smiles across the gym. Light refreshments and warm greetings set the tone for a festive and family-centered morning.

After the assembly, students proudly guided their guests through campus—sharing classrooms, projects, and hands-on activities across every grade level. From Spanish and Art to Science, P.E., and Music, each class crafted a meaningful experience that allowed visitors to see the heart of Barnesville’s joyful learning environment. Middle school students also participated in portrait sessions and class tours, capturing memories that families will treasure for years to come.

This cherished day is made possible through the dedication of the Barnesville Parent Connection, faculty, staff, and volunteers. Special thanks went to the Parent Connection for the beautiful decorations and refreshments, and to photographer Ashlynn Stearns, whose images help preserve the warmth and gratitude of the occasion.

As the morning concluded, families departed with full hearts—and for many, hand-in-hand with the students who had spent the day proudly showing them what makes Barnesville such a special place.

A very happy Thanksgiving from all of us at Barnesville School of Arts & Sciences.
