Barnesville Teachers are Learning Outdoors!

We’re excited to share that our teachers are embarking on a new professional development series in partnership with Black Hill Regional Park and the Black Hill Discovery Center, beginning this Monday!

Black Hill Discovery Center is dedicated to fostering environmental stewardship through hands-on, nature-based education. Together, we’re building on Barnesville’s mission as a Green School—bringing more learning outdoors and helping students connect deeply with the natural world around them.

What This Means for Our Students

Through this training, our teachers will:
  • Deepen their personal connections with nature, helping them model a love for the environment in every subject.
  • Learn new strategies for outdoor learning, so students can enjoy hands-on lessons in science, art, writing, and more—no matter the season.
  • Discover nature-based curriculum ideas that make learning more engaging, creative, and relevant.
  • Build a stronger community of environmental learners, ensuring sustainability is part of everyday life at Barnesville.
The workshop series, led by naturalists Christy Korzen and Katrina Fauss, will run throughout the school year and include sessions focused on connecting with nature, outdoor teaching strategies, and weaving sustainability into classroom learning.

We can’t wait to see how this experience inspires our teachers—and benefits our students through more hands-on, joyful learning opportunities outdoors.
