Each year before Thanksgiving, Barnesville celebrates Grandparents & Special Friends Day, inviting special guests to spend a morning with students on campus to experience the joy, support, and excellence we know to be The Barnesville Way.
Our fearless and committed BPC was not daunted by the challenges presented by 2020, COVID-19, and social distancing, and worked to ensure this much loved tradition would still be a highlight of the school year for our students and special guests. On Tuesday, November 24th, Grandparents and Special Friends were virtually welcomed by Head of School, Susanne Johnson, Assistant Head of School, Vickie Roos, as well as specials teachers Sarah Eargle (Art), Hamilton Hayes (Music), Alex Murray (Physical Education), and Julie Halstead (3rd-8th Grade Spanish). Classroom teachers hosted virtual meet ups via Zoom, providing our guests with a glimpse into classroom life and what it's like to be a student in 2020.
In keeping with tradition, Grandparents and Special Friends were provided with the opportunity to purchase books via Amazon to keep reading materials fresh and up-to-date with student interests. Older books are donated to nonprofit organizations.
The School is extremely grateful for the volunteer efforts of our BPC and community spirit of our faculty and staff that enable students to share their Barnesville experience with family and friends each fall. We are especially thankful to event chairs Nancy Dillman (Andy, EC3) and Jacqueline Moore (Finn, 4th), BPC President, Betsy Cavazos (Quincy, 3rd and Silas, K) as well as Lauren Burr, Barnesville's Social Media and Website Specialist for the amazing welcome video!
Our teaching encourages students to explore how subjects relate to one another, helping them to make connections that spark inquiry and deepen understanding.
