Barnesville Student Wins Award in Statewide Art Contest
Carina Araujo, a student at the Barnesville School of Arts & Sciences, has been awarded 2nd Place in the middle school category of the "Together We’re Better" (TWB) Artwork Contest. The contest, organized by The Arc Maryland in partnership with the Maryland State Department of Education, Maryland Developmental Disabilities Council, and the Maryland Department of Disabilities, celebrates the principles of unity, diversity, and inclusion.
Carina's artwork stood out among numerous submissions, earning her a $50 gift card. Additionally, the Barnesville School of Arts & Sciences will receive a $200 check in recognition of their student's achievement.
To honor the awardees, The Arc Maryland has invited a representative from Barnesville School, Carina, and a guest to attend the Annual Developmental Disabilities Day at the Legislature on February 21, 2024. The event will take place at The Graduate Hotel Annapolis, where the artwork awards presentation is scheduled for 9:15 am. Notable attendees will include Secretary Carol Beatty from the Maryland Department of Disabilities, members from the Maryland State Department of Education, and potentially Governor Wes Moore and Maryland’s First Lady Dawn Flythe Moore.
The Annual Developmental Disabilities Day at the Legislature is a significant event that draws over 750 constituents from across Maryland. It serves as an opportunity to advance the grassroots movement for people with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities (I/DD) and will be livestreamed on Facebook.
