Academics

Early Childhood, Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten

Welcome to Early Learning!

At Barnesville School of Arts & Sciences, our youngest learners begin their educational journey in a joyful, nurturing, and developmentally responsive environment. Our Early Childhood, Pre-Kindergarten, and Kindergarten programs are intentionally designed to honor childhood, spark curiosity, and build strong foundations for lifelong learning.

Through play‑based exploration, arts integration, and caring relationships, children develop confidence, creativity, and a love of learning—while gaining the academic and social‑emotional skills they need to thrive.

Curriculum

Research shows that strong early education sets students up for success in school and in life. During these critical years, they’ll build academic foundations while developing socially, emotionally, and physically. Preschool students at Barnesville School explore core subject areas such as reading, math, science, and history through stimulating and developmentally appropriate lessons, putting in place the building blocks for all future learning. The experience is enhanced by music, foreign language, library time, and other enriching activities.

We offer two distinct preschool programs: Early Childhood (EC) for 3-year-olds and Pre-Kindergarten (Pre-K) for 4-year-olds. Both are half-day, morning programs with an optional afternoon enrichment.

  • Early Childhood Program

For most, our early childhood program is a first exposure to formal education. In a joyful and nurturing environment, a genuine love for learning is fostered early on. Three-year-old students take in new information at an exceptional rate. Our teachers leverage their natural curiosity through hands-on learning experiences. Students put on their chef's hats and try their hands at muffin making. Each year, our EC curriculum is filled with new and exciting adventures.
  • Pre-Kindergarten Program

Four-year-olds need to master certain foundational skills before entering kindergarten. Our pre-kindergarten program focuses not only on academic readiness, but on valuable social and emotional skills that are vital for learning in collaboration with others. A thematically based curriculum introduces core subject areas through real-world experiences.
  • Kindergarten

Kindergarten children have many opportunities to explore, discover, and play. They learn language arts, math, science, social studies, art, music, and Spanish through hands-on activities, group instruction, and individual teacher support.

Children arrive at various stages of academic readiness, but with patience and time, they all experience the joy of reading, writing, and creating. Some children jump into academics with ease, while others need the extra time and attention that experienced teachers and small classes can provide. Likewise, children come with different levels of physical, social, and emotional maturity. During the year, they learn to negotiate, compromise, and empathize through example and role-playing activities.
