From Beginner's Strings to High School Symphony: Barnesville Teacher Celebrates Former Students' Success
It’s one thing to teach a child to play an instrument, and quite another to witness that student carry their love of music forward into high school and beyond. That’s exactly the powerful experience Barnesville School's Music Teacher, Hamilton Hayes, enjoyed last week.
Mr. Hayes had the special privilege of being in the audience at Our Lady of Good Counsel High School, watching two familiar faces from the Barnesville Class of 2023 perform with the school's full symphony orchestra and choir.
A Powerful Full-Circle Moment
The featured students, Willem and Sawyer, who recently graduated from Barnesville, took to the stage with the confidence and skill gained over years of dedication—a dedication that began right here in the Barnesville music room.
Mr. Hayes was understandably elated and proud to see his former students thriving. He shared his thoughts on the experience:
"Moments like these are powerful — I remember when Willem and Sawyer first picked up the very instruments they now play with such confidence and artistry. They've come such a long way, and I'm so grateful to witness their continued growth as musicians and students."
More Than Just a Lesson
This performance wasn't just a testament to Willem and Sawyer's hard work; it was a vivid demonstration of the foundational strength of the Barnesville School music program.
At Barnesville, students don't just learn notes and rhythm; they develop:
Confidence in performing for an audience.
Discipline required for mastery.
A lifelong appreciation for the arts.
Seeing Willem and Sawyer transition seamlessly from Barnesville ensembles to a sophisticated high school symphony is the ultimate reward for the time, effort, and care our teachers pour into every lesson. It proves that the spark ignited in our music room can grow into a dazzling flame on a larger stage.
